Overview
Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) is the Union Government’s capital subsidy for drip and sprinkler (micro-irrigation) systems — the single largest subsidy line item most individual farmers ever claim from a central scheme. It pays 55% of the system cost for small and marginal farmers and 45% for other farmers, split between the Centre and the State in a 60:40 ratio (90:10 in North-Eastern and Himalayan states, 100% Centre-funded in Union Territories), capped at an overall 5 hectares per beneficiary.
PDMC ran as a component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) from 2015-16 to 2021-22. From 2022-23 it has been funded and implemented through Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana instead, and since the Cabinet’s restructuring on 3 October 2024 it has been a component of Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) — see the PM-RKVY scheme page for the wider umbrella scheme and its other components. Throughout these transitions, the subsidy rate, ceilings and guidelines have stayed the same.
For farmers interested in micro-irrigation, PDMC is the component that provides this financial assistance for eligible drip and sprinkler irrigation systems. In practice, a farmer applies through the State Agriculture or Horticulture department — online via the State’s micro-irrigation MIS portal, or offline at the district office — buys the system from a State-registered, BIS-certified manufacturer, and receives the subsidy as Direct Benefit Transfer once installation is verified.
Scheme highlights
What it funds
Drip and sprinkler (micro-irrigation) systems, including fertigation units — the same water covers more land, and fertiliser reaches further through the line.
55% / 45% capital subsidy
Small and marginal farmers get back 55% of the system cost; other farmers get 45% — paid once, not a recurring benefit.
BIS-certified systems only
Subsidy is paid only on drip/sprinkler components from State-registered manufacturers meeting BIS standards, with at least 3 years of after-sales service.
Paid as DBT, after verification
The subsidy is released electronically once the implementing agency verifies the completed installation — not upfront, and not to the dealer.
7-year reapplication gap
A subsidised system has a projected life of 7 years; the same plot becomes eligible for PDMC again only after that period.
State top-up funds available
Several States add a further subsidy on top of the central rate, often through a Micro Irrigation Fund set up with NABARD — check your State’s current top-up.
What you get
Financial benefit
55% of the drip/sprinkler system cost for small and marginal farmers, 45% for other farmers — a one-time capital subsidy, not a yearly cash payment.
Who it reaches
Any farmer — owner or a long-term lessee — installing drip or sprinkler irrigation on up to 5 hectares.
Water and input savings
Micro-irrigation cuts water use and raises fertiliser-use efficiency at the farm, on top of the subsidy itself.
Payment mode
The subsidy is released electronically by Direct Benefit Transfer into the farmer’s Aadhaar-linked bank account after installation is verified.
Who is eligible
Both lists come from the notified operational guidelines — meeting the left column is not enough if anything in the right column applies to your family.
You qualify if
- Farmer with cultivable land — owned, or leased under a written agreement valid for at least 7 years
- Land to be covered is 5 hectares or less (the per-beneficiary ceiling), even across multiple plots
- Aadhaar available, or enrolment underway, linked to a bank account for DBT
- Buying the drip/sprinkler system from a State Level Sanctioning Committee (SLSC)-registered, BIS-certified manufacturer
- Has not already received micro-irrigation subsidy on the same land within the last 7 years
Excluded — even with land
- Land already covered by a subsidised micro-irrigation system within the last 7 years — re-subsidy on the same plot waits out the system’s projected life
- Area beyond the 5-hectare per-beneficiary ceiling
- Systems bought from manufacturers not registered with the State (unregistered or non-BIS equipment)
- Leased or contract-farming land without a qualifying lease agreement of at least 7 years
Where this scheme applies
A central scheme with pan-India coverage — open to eligible farmers in every State and Union Territory.
Documents you need

Aadhaar card
Needed to register; if not yet enrolled, an alternate ID (voter ID, PAN, ration card, bank passbook) is accepted temporarily.
Land record
Khasra / khatauni or Record of Rights showing the land, or a registered lease agreement of at least 7 years if the land is leased.
Bank passbook
Account details for DBT — the subsidy lands here once installation is verified.
Mobile number
Used for OTPs, registration and SMS updates on the application and subsidy release.
Quotation / Bill of Quantities
A cost estimate from the registered manufacturer for the specific drip or sprinkler design suited to your field.
Passport-size photo
Needed when applying at the district Agriculture or Horticulture office, along with the documents above.
How to apply, step by step
The same six steps apply whether you register yourself online or sit down at a CSC.
- 1
Apply
Register on your State’s micro-irrigation MIS portal, or apply offline at the District Agriculture Officer / District Horticulture Officer’s office — applications are open all year.
- 2
Choose a registered manufacturer
Pick any SLSC-registered, BIS-certified drip/sprinkler manufacturer from the State’s approved list; the company assesses your crop’s water need and designs the system.
- 3
Estimate and work order
The manufacturer submits a cost estimate (Bill of Quantities); the implementing agency approves it and issues a work order.
- 4
Installation
The company installs and commissions the system, provides a warranty and a user manual, and trains you on running and maintaining it.
- 5
Verification
The implementing agency physically verifies the installation, and you sign a completion certificate confirming it.
- 6
Subsidy paid
55% (small/marginal) or 45% (other farmers) of the approved cost is transferred by DBT to your Aadhaar-linked bank account.

Frequently asked questions
What is Per Drop More Crop (PDMC)?
A Union Government capital subsidy for installing drip or sprinkler (micro-irrigation) systems — 55% of the system cost for small and marginal farmers, 45% for other farmers, capped at 5 hectares per beneficiary.
Is PDMC part of PM-RKVY?
Yes, currently. PDMC ran as a component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) from 2015-16 to 2021-22, moved to Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana from 2022-23, and has been a component of Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) since the Cabinet’s restructuring on 3 October 2024. The subsidy pattern has not changed through any of these transitions.
What is the PDMC micro-irrigation subsidy rate?
55% of the system cost for small and marginal farmers, and 45% for other farmers. This is shared between the Centre and the State in a 60:40 ratio for most States, 90:10 for North-Eastern and Himalayan States, and 100% Centre-funded for Union Territories.
Is there a limit on how much land the subsidy covers?
Yes. Assistance is capped at an overall ceiling of 5 hectares per beneficiary. The land can be in one block or spread across locations, but the total area counted for subsidy cannot exceed 5 hectares.
Do some States pay extra on top of the central subsidy?
Some State governments add a top-up subsidy over and above the central rate, funded through the Micro Irrigation Fund (MIF) set up with NABARD or the State’s own budget. The top-up amount is State-specific — check with your State Agriculture or Horticulture department for the current rate in your State.
Who is eligible for the Per Drop More Crop subsidy?
Any farmer with cultivable land — an owner, or a lessee with a written lease agreement valid for at least 7 years — who has not already received micro-irrigation subsidy on that same land within the last 7 years, and who buys the system from a State-registered manufacturer.
How does a farmer apply for the drip/sprinkler subsidy?
Apply on your State’s micro-irrigation MIS portal (online mode), or offline at the office of the District Agriculture Officer or District Horticulture Officer. Applications are accepted year-round — there is no fixed window.
Which documents are needed to apply?
Aadhaar (or proof of enrolment), the land record or a qualifying lease agreement, a bank passbook for Direct Benefit Transfer, a mobile number, and a cost estimate (Bill of Quantities) from the manufacturer. A passport-size photo is needed for office applications.
Can I buy the drip/sprinkler system from any dealer?
No. The subsidy is paid only on systems bought from a manufacturer registered with the State Level Sanctioning Committee (SLSC) and certified to BIS standards. The State publishes an approved list — a farmer can choose any company from it, and that company must provide at least 3 years of after-sales service.
How is the subsidy paid — as cash before buying, or reimbursed after?
The subsidy is released after installation, once the implementing agency physically verifies the completed system and the farmer certifies it. Payment goes electronically by Direct Benefit Transfer into the farmer’s Aadhaar-linked bank account.
Can I get the subsidy again for the same field?
Not immediately. A micro-irrigation system has a projected life of 7 years, and a farmer becomes eligible for subsidy on the same plot again only after that period — even if a different crop is grown in the meantime.
What GST applies on drip/sprinkler (micro-irrigation) systems?
Micro-irrigation systems attract 12% GST, as notified by the Ministry of Finance (Notification No. 6/2018-Central Tax (Rate), dated 25 January 2018).
What is the difference between PDMC and PM-RKVY?
PDMC (Per Drop More Crop) is one specific component — the micro-irrigation subsidy for drip and sprinkler systems. PM-RKVY is the umbrella “cafeteria” scheme that funds PDMC alongside several other components, such as organic farming (PKVY) and farm mechanization (SMAM), through the States.
What is the PDMC helpline?
For general farm-scheme queries, call the toll-free Kisan Call Centre on 1800-180-1551. For written queries on Per Drop More Crop specifically, the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare’s technical support email is [email protected].
