Overview

PM-KISAN is a central sector scheme, fully funded by the Government of India. Every landholding farmer family — husband, wife and minor children — receives ₹6,000 per year.

The money arrives as three instalments of ₹2,000, one in each four-month period (April–July, August–November, December–March), by Direct Benefit Transfer into an Aadhaar-seeded bank account.

Three things stop most payments: e-KYC not completed, land records not seeded with the portal, or the name on Aadhaar not matching the bank account. Fix those three and the instalments flow.

Scheme highlights

  • Direct Benefit Transfer

Paid straight into your bank account. No middlemen, no offices to visit for the payment.

  • ₹6,000 annual support

Unconditional income support — spend it on seed, fertiliser or whatever the farm needs.

  • 3 instalments a year

    ₹2,000 in each four-month period: April–July, August–November, December–March.

  • Online registration

Register yourself on pmkisan.gov.in, at any CSC, or through your state agriculture office.

  • 100% Government of India funded

A central sector scheme — the full benefit comes from the central government.

  • 9.44 crore families paid

The 23rd instalment (June 2026) reached 9.44 crore farmer families in one day.

What you get

  • Financial benefit

₹6,000 per family per year. It is a grant, not a loan — nothing has to be repaid.

  • Who gets it

All landholding farmer families whose names appear in the land records, unless an exclusion applies.

  • How often

Every four months. Instalment periods are April–July, August–November and December–March.

  • Payment mode

Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into an Aadhaar-seeded bank account. e-KYC is mandatory.

Who is eligible

Both lists come from the notified operational guidelines — meeting the left column is not enough if anything in the right column applies to your family.

You qualify if

  • Indian citizen
  • Farmer family — husband, wife and minor children counted as one family
  • Family owns cultivable land recorded in the state land records
  • Aadhaar available and linked (e-KYC completed)
  • Bank account seeded with Aadhaar for DBT

Excluded — even with land

  • Institutional landholders (land held by trusts, companies, institutions)

  • Serving or retired government employees and their families (Group D / MTS staff exempt)
  • Pensioners drawing ₹10,000 or more per month (Group D / MTS exempt)
  • Anyone who paid income tax in the last assessment year
  • Practising professionals — doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants, architects

Where this scheme applies

A central scheme with pan-India coverage — open to eligible farmers in every State and Union Territory.

Documents you need

Have these ready before you start — the online form takes ten minutes when nothing is missing.

  • Aadhaar card

Mandatory. The name must match the bank account exactly — mismatches block payment.

  • Land record (khatauni / RoR)

Record of Rights showing cultivable land in a family member’s name.

  • Bank passbook

Account number and IFSC of an active account, seeded with Aadhaar for DBT.

  • Mobile number

Used for OTPs during registration, e-KYC and status updates.

  • Passport-size photo

Needed when registering through a CSC or the state agriculture office.

  • e-KYC

OTP-based on the portal, or biometric at any CSC. No instalment is released without it.

How to apply, step by step

The same six steps apply whether you register yourself online or sit down at a CSC.

  1. 1

    Registration

Open “New Farmer Registration” on pmkisan.gov.in, or visit your nearest CSC or state agriculture office.

  2. 2

    Fill the application

Enter Aadhaar number, state, district and bank details. The form pre-fills what the land registry already knows.

  3. 3

    Add land records

Enter khata / khasra details from your Record of Rights so the holding can be verified.

  4. 4

    Verification

The state government verifies your details against the land records. Track progress under “Status of Self Registered Farmer”.

  5. 5

    Complete e-KYC

OTP-based e-KYC on the portal, or biometric e-KYC at a CSC. Skipping this is the most common reason payments stop.

  6. 6

    Money arrives

Once approved, every instalment lands in your Aadhaar-seeded account by DBT. Check “Beneficiary Status” anytime.

This checker applies the criteria in the official operational guidelines, but it is guidance — only the state government’s verification against the land records is final.

Frequently asked questions

What is PM-KISAN?

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a central government scheme that pays every eligible landholding farmer family ₹6,000 per year as income support, in three instalments of ₹2,000 directly into the bank account.

Who is eligible for PM-KISAN?

All landholding farmer families — husband, wife and minor children — whose names appear in the state land records, unless an exclusion applies (income-tax payers, government employees, pensioners drawing ₹10,000+ per month, practising professionals, institutional landholders and holders of public office).

Who is NOT eligible for PM-KISAN?

Institutional landholders; families where any member is or was a constitutional post holder, minister, MP, MLA, mayor or district panchayat chairperson; serving or retired government employees (except Group D/MTS); pensioners drawing ₹10,000 or more per month (except Group D/MTS); anyone who paid income tax in the last assessment year; and practising doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants and architects.

How much money does PM-KISAN give per year?

₹6,000 per family per year, paid as three equal instalments of ₹2,000 — one in each four-month period: April–July, August–November and December–March.

How do I apply for PM-KISAN online?

Go to pmkisan.gov.in, open “New Farmer Registration”, enter your Aadhaar number, state and captcha, then fill in your personal, bank and land-record details. You can also apply through any Common Service Centre (CSC) or your state agriculture office.

Which documents are needed for PM-KISAN registration?

Aadhaar card (mandatory), the land record (khatauni / Record of Rights), a bank account with IFSC that is seeded with Aadhaar, and a mobile number. A passport-size photo is needed when applying through a CSC.

Is e-KYC mandatory for PM-KISAN?

Yes. No instalment is released without e-KYC. You can complete OTP-based e-KYC on pmkisan.gov.in, biometric e-KYC at any CSC, or face-authentication e-KYC in the official PM-KISAN mobile app.

How do I check my PM-KISAN beneficiary status?

Open “Know Your Status / Beneficiary Status” on pmkisan.gov.in and search with your registration number, or call the 24×7 IVRS helpline 155261. The status shows registration, e-KYC and each instalment.

When was the latest PM-KISAN instalment released?

The 23rd instalment was released on 20 June 2026 — over ₹18,880 crore transferred to more than 9.44 crore farmer families for the April–July 2026-27 period. The 24th instalment will cover August–November 2026; its date is announced by the ministry when it is released.

Why did my PM-KISAN instalment not arrive?

The three most common reasons are: e-KYC not completed, land records not seeded/verified with the portal, or the name on Aadhaar not matching the bank account. Check “Beneficiary Status” on pmkisan.gov.in to see exactly which step is pending, fix it, and the next instalment resumes.

Can tenant farmers or sharecroppers get PM-KISAN?

No. The scheme is restricted to families whose names appear in the land records as landholders. Farmers who cultivate rented land without owning any recorded land are not covered.

Can both husband and wife get PM-KISAN separately?

No. The scheme defines the family as husband, wife and minor children, and pays one benefit of ₹6,000 per year per family — even if both spouses hold land separately.

Is PM-KISAN money a loan? Does it have to be repaid?

No. PM-KISAN is a grant — unconditional income support. Nothing has to be repaid and no interest is involved. (Recovery is sought only from people who took the benefit while ineligible.)

Is there any fee for PM-KISAN registration?

Registration on pmkisan.gov.in is free. CSCs may charge a small notified service fee for assisted registration and biometric e-KYC. Nobody official will ever ask for money to “release” an instalment — treat any such call as fraud.

How do I update my bank account or mobile number in PM-KISAN?

Use the “Updation of Self Registered Farmer” / mobile-update options on pmkisan.gov.in, or visit a CSC. Since payments follow Aadhaar-based DBT, the safest fix for bank issues is to seed your current account with Aadhaar at the bank.

What is the PM-KISAN helpline number?

The 24×7 IVRS helpline is 155261, and the PM-KISAN help desk is 011-24300606. You can also email [email protected] or file a grievance on pmkisan.gov.in.
