What is the real difference between capsule rot (Azhukal) and rhizome rot?

They are related but distinct diseases. Azhukal is a Phytophthora disease of the developing capsules and panicles, usually starting above ground during the monsoon and capable of rotting a whole panicle within days. Rhizome rot is a separate, primarily Pythium-driven disease of the underground rhizome itself — the reason releases like IISR Avinash were specifically bred for rhizome-rot resistance rather than Azhukal resistance. A badly managed capsule rot infection can eventually reach the rhizome too, but they start as different problems.

Does cardamom have an MSP or genuine mandi trade in India?

No MSP — cardamom is not a CACP-notified crop. Most of the commercial crop is sold through the Spices Board's e-auction system at Bodinayakanur (Tamil Nadu) and Puttady (Kerala), which functions as the real price-discovery mechanism for growers.
