Mudigere-1 is one of the earlier named releases from ICAR-IISR's Cardamom Research Centre at Appangala, Karnataka, part of a Malabar-type breeding programme that has produced a small, connected family of releases (Mudigere-1, Mudigere-2) for the Karnataka–Wayanad hill belt. It is described consistently across horticultural sources as having a compact plant habit well suited to high-density planting compared with older, more sprawling farmer selections, with short panicles and oval, bold, pale-green capsules.
