About this variety
Mudigere-2 was released in 1994 from ICAR-IISR's Cardamom Research Centre at Appangala, Karnataka, as a Malabar-type clonal selection recommended specifically for Kodagu, north Wayanad, Hassan and Chikkamagaluru — the core of the Karnataka side of India's cardamom belt. Multiple horticultural sources consistently report an average trial yield around 475 kg/ha, a genuinely high figure against the 150–300 kg/ha typical of smallholder cardamom nationally, though that figure reflects trial-station conditions rather than a guaranteed farm-level result. As with most cardamom releases, detailed disease-resistance data specific to Mudigere-2 beyond general Malabar-type vigour was not independently confirmed in this research pass.

Pest & disease considerations
Advantages & considerations
Why farmers may choose it
- A genuinely high trial-station yield (~475 kg/ha) among the higher figures reported for any named cardamom release.
- Specifically recommended for, and evaluated in, the Karnataka–north Wayanad hill belt rather than a generic all-India claim.
Things to consider
- The ~475 kg/ha figure is a trial-station average, not a guaranteed farm-level result — actual smallholder yield depends heavily on shade, drainage and disease management.
- Detailed disease-resistance data specific to Mudigere-2 was not independently confirmed in this pass — apply the same standard Katte/capsule-rot precautions as any cardamom planting.
