About this variety

Beema Bamboo (also spelled Bheema) is a superior clone selected from Bambusa balcooa and multiplied through tissue culture by Growmore Biotech Ltd, Tamil Nadu, over more than fifteen years of field selection. Because every plant is a clone of one selected mother plant, a Beema plantation is genetically uniform and, the company states, sterile — it does not go through the gregarious flowering that kills a normal bamboo clump, so a planting can stay productive for decades without that risk. It is promoted mainly for high-density energy and biomass plantations (around 1,000 plants/acre) under assured irrigation, and for carbon and greening projects.
