It is a long-duration variety, taking about 165 days to mature, and is recommended for cultivation under both irrigated and rainfed conditions. Reported seed yield is around 14.26 q/ha under irrigation and 5.8 q/ha rainfed, with seed reported to carry about 3.5% essential oil. AA-1 is one of the two "national check" varieties (alongside AA-2) that newer releases such as Gujarat Ajwain-3 are benchmarked against in multi-location trials.
