Gujarat Ajwain-3 (GA-3) was developed and released by Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University (SDAU) at its Jagudan seed spices research station, Gujarat, after six trials at Jagudan and coordinated varietal trials (CVT) at seven locations across India. It gave 12.9% and 4.5% higher seed yield than the national check varieties AA-1 and AA-2 respectively, averaging about 1035 kg/ha across trials, with uniform, bold seed (test weight 1.15 g), attractive seed colour, and seed reported as more pungent and better aromatic than the checks. It has a medium-leafy, green-foliage plant type and a medium maturity duration. GA-3 was recommended for release across a wide belt — Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh — the widest recommended range of any ajwain variety in this registry.
