About this variety

Sree Pallavi is a taro (Colocasia esculenta) variety released by ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI), Thiruvananthapuram. It grows tall (1–1.5 m) with a low-tillering habit, and each plant produces a relatively large number of small cormels — around 20 to 25 — rather than a few large ones, taking 195–210 days to mature. Its farm-level yield runs 15–18 t/ha, with 16–17% starch and 2–3% protein content in the cormels. What sets Sree Pallavi apart from most Indian taro releases is that it is field-tolerant to both major disease pressures at once: taro leaf blight (Phytophthora colocasiae) and Dasheen mosaic virus — a combination worth choosing specifically where a field has a history of either or both.
