About this variety
C-413 is a clonal Eucalyptus selection released and recommended by Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, for commercial farm-forestry planting across Punjab's agro-climatic zones. Propagated as rooted cuttings or tissue-culture plantlets and planted in nursery polybags at the onset of the monsoon, it gives straight, uniform growth and reliable pulpwood yield under the state's canal-irrigated conditions, and is one of the two clones (alongside C-2045) most commonly recommended to Punjab farmers planting eucalyptus as a pulpwood or plywood-core block.
Key characteristics
Sowing & cultivation
- Spacing3 x 2 m or 2 x 2 m (about 600-750 plants/acre) for a dense pulpwood block; 4 x 4 m for pole/agroforestry planting
Yield & maturity
Maturity period
5-7 year rotation to clear-felling
Expected yield
High under Punjab's canal-irrigated plains
Actual yield depends on sowing time, soil, irrigation, weather, seed quality and crop management.
Pest & disease considerations
Major diseases
- Moderate; standard gall-wasp and termite watch needed
Advantages & considerations
Why farmers may choose it
- Straight, uniform growth well suited to pulpwood and plywood-core sale
- One of PAU's two standard commercial recommendations for Punjab, so planting material and agronomic guidance are both readily available
- Performs reliably under Punjab's canal-irrigated farm-forestry conditions
Things to consider
- Not specifically bred for saline or waterlogged land — use PE-11 on such sites instead
- Needs standard gall-wasp (Leptocybe invasa) and termite monitoring like other clones in the north-Indian belt
