About this variety

GPU 28 is a finger-millet variety developed by the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bengaluru, and released in the late 1990s. It became the dominant rainfed kharif ragi across the southern plateau — Karnataka in particular — because it combines high tillering, medium duration, good resistance to leaf and finger blast, and a semi-compact ear that threshes easily. It responds well to both rainfed and irrigated management.
