Vivek Hybrid 27 is an extra-early maize hybrid bred at ICAR-VPKAS, Almora by combining the field-corn lines V 335 and V 345. It was officially notified on 15 October 2007 (S.O. 1703(E)) for a wide belt covering Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. In multi-location trials it recorded 4,139 kg/ha in the North East Plain Zone — 23.2% above the check variety Him 129 — and 4,821 kg/ha in the Peninsular Zone, a 35.3% advantage over the same check, and it carries documented moderate resistance to both turcicum leaf blight and common rust.
