Advantages & considerations

Why farmers may choose it

  • Officially notified variety with an established, government-recognised identity that buyers and exporters trust
  • Well suited to tropical kharif conditions and widely used across curries, pickles and pakoras

Things to consider

  • Storage life caps out around 3–4 months, shorter than dedicated rabi storage varieties, so the crop needs to move to market relatively soon after harvest
  • Bred and notified specifically for the kharif window — its documented yield and quality figures are based on that season, not others

Frequently asked questions

Why is Agrifound Dark Red mainly a kharif-season onion?

It was bred and officially notified for kharif cultivation, and its 3–4 month storage life is shorter than rabi varieties bred for long holding — so it suits selling into the market relatively soon after harvest rather than storing through the off-season.
