About this variety
KBSH-44 is a single-cross sunflower hybrid (CMS-17A female line × RHA-95-C-1 restorer line, per a molecular-marker hybrid-purity study) released in 2002 at national level by the AICRP (Sunflower) Centre at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (GKVK) — the same programme that released India's first heterosis-bred sunflower hybrid, KBSH-1, a decade earlier in 1992. KBSH-44 has stayed commercially relevant long after release: it was licensed for seed production to Mahyco Pvt Ltd in 2018, sixteen years after its original release.
