About this variety

A growing number of private tissue-culture laboratories across central and western India — Sachdev Nursery in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh being a well-known example — now raise clonal teak plantlets for direct commercial sale to farmers. This is the modern, market-driven route most new farm-teak plantings actually use today, distinct from both the traditional government-nursery stump and the specific institutional IFGTB TG-clone programme. Plantlets are multiplied from selected mother trees for faster, more uniform early growth than ordinary seedling stumps, at a higher per-plant cost.

Advantages & considerations

Why farmers may choose it

  • Faster, more uniform early growth than ordinary seedling stumps
  • Widely available in the market today — often the easiest route for a farmer to source planting material on short notice

Things to consider

  • Costs more per plant than an ordinary stump
  • Quality and mother-tree provenance vary by supplier — verify the specific lab's reputation and source trees before a large purchase

Suitable regions

Available through private tissue-culture laboratories across several central and western Indian states — confirm the nearest current supplier before planting.
