Overview
In the hills, the thing that ends a crop is usually not weather or price — it is monkeys, wild boar and nilgai. Whole terraces get abandoned because guarding them costs more than the crop is worth. This scheme, known locally as Badhbandi, treats fencing as the input it actually is and pays 70 per cent of it.
Four fencing types are covered: solar-powered fence, interlink chain-link fence, a solar-plus-chain-link combination, and barbed wire. How it gets built depends on the type — the solar variants are installed by service providers empanelled by the department, while chain-link and barbed-wire fences you put up yourself and claim against. In 2024–25 the scheme fenced 954.78 hectares for 1,522 farmers.

- Permanent resident of Himachal Pradesh
- Cultivating agricultural land in the state
- Land records in your name, or a valid tenancy
- Registered on the AgriDBT portal with a bank account for the subsidy transfer

- Fencing erected before sanction — the subsidy is not paid retrospectively
- Fencing types outside the four notified under the scheme

Applications go through agridbt.hp.gov.in. Pick the fencing type when you apply — it decides who builds it.

Wait for sanction before any work starts
A fence put up before the sanction order does not qualify. For solar types, the department assigns an empanelled service provider after sanction.

Verification and subsidy release
Departmental staff verify the completed fence against the sanctioned length and type, and the 70% subsidy is released.
