About this variety
Poona Fig is the most popular fig variety for fresh consumption in India, grown above all in the PuneтАУPurandar belt of Maharashtra. It has purplish-brown skin and good eating quality and is the benchmark Indian table fig; many local types (including the Bellary type) resemble it in plant and fruit. Its one weakness is that the soft fruit is prone to splitting in humid or wet weather at ripening, so it is best grown for a dry ripening season.
