About this variety

RZ-19 was developed at SKN College of Agriculture (Rajasthan Agricultural University), Jobner, through selection from a local seed collection and released in 1988. It has been a mainstay variety in Rajasthan's cumin belt for decades, with a longer duration of 120–140 days and a moderate yield of 5–6 q/ha — figures that reflect its status as an established, dependable rather than cutting-edge release. Unlike the newer Gujarat lines bred specifically for Fusarium wilt resistance, RZ-19's disease tolerance is only moderate, so on a field with a known wilt history a grower is better served by a resistant variety such as RZ-209, GC-4 or MC-43.

Advantages & considerations

Why farmers may choose it

  • A long-proven variety with decades of grower experience across Rajasthan.

Things to consider

  • Only moderate disease tolerance and a longer 120–140 day duration — on a field with any wilt history, a resistant variety like RZ-209 or GC-4 is the safer choice.
