About this variety
Pant Suvarna completes the set of three pickle-type karonda varieties released by GBPUAT Pantnagar, alongside Pant Manohar and Pant Sudarshan. It shares the same breeding goal — a consistently high-acidity, low total soluble solids green fruit bred specifically for pickle and chutney processing — giving farmers in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand three closely related, institutionally released choices rather than a single option, useful where a processor wants to compare performance across more than one named line under local conditions.
Should you pick this variety?
Pant Suvarna is the third Pantnagar pickle variety, after Pant Manohar and Pant Sudarshan. It has the same aim: sour, low-sugar green fruit for pickle and chutney. It is a fair choice if you are in Uttar Pradesh or Uttarakhand and sell to pickle makers, especially if you want to trial all three varieties and keep the best one. It is not meant for sweet, fresh eating. For that, Konkan Bold is the better pick. For hot, dry land in Rajasthan or Gujarat, look at Maru Gaurav.

How to trial the three Pantnagar pickle varieties
Pant Manohar, Pant Sudarshan and Pant Suvarna were released from the same programme for the same green-fruit profile, and no separate per-plant yield figure is published for any one of them. On paper you cannot choose between them. On your own land you can.
Plant a few bushes of each in the same block, same soil, same water, and mark them so they do not get mixed up. From the third year, weigh the fruit bush by bush at each picking and keep a page for each variety. Also ask your pickle buyer which lot he liked and why. After two seasons the three stop being identical, and the one that suits your soil and your buyer is the one to expand.

Which karonda varieties are best for pickle?
The three Pantnagar varieties, Pant Manohar, Pant Sudarshan and Pant Suvarna, were all bred for sour green fruit for pickle and chutney. Sweet varieties such as Konkan Bold and CHES-K-II-7 are not meant for pickle.
Does Pant Suvarna give more fruit than the other two Pant varieties?
