Hayward is the world's dominant commercial kiwi variety and the benchmark female type in India. Its large, oval, well-flavoured fruit are the firmest at harvest and keep and ship better than any other common variety, which is why it is the first choice wherever storage and marketing over a long window matter. It is later-maturing and suits the higher, colder sites that provide enough winter chilling. As a female variety it only fruits if a compatible male pollinator (such as Tomuri) is flowering alongside it тАФ one male to every five to eight Hayward vines.
