About this variety

IPL 316, released as Pusa Ageti Masoor, is a short-duration small-seeded lentil from ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur, recommended for the Central Zone (Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and adjoining tracts). At about 110–120 days it is one of the earliest lentils in wide cultivation, and that early maturity is its main purpose: it lets pod-fill finish before the terminal heat that shrivels a late lentil crop, and it fits into the short gap after a kharif rice or soybean crop, including as a rice-fallow (utera) crop. It is listed as resistant to Fusarium wilt and tolerant to rust, and in trials has shown high seed yield for its duration class — around 11 q/ha in the evaluations cited, with more possible under good management.
