About this variety
Godavari Ratna is one of the few formally named and released Indian oil palm hybrids, developed by ICAR-IIOPR and released for the coastal region of Maharashtra. Like all commercial oil palm it is a tenera (Dura ├Ч Pisifera) hybrid, but it is specifically a named Indian release targeted at the agro-climate of the western coastal belt rather than a generic imported cross. Where it is available for the region, it gives growers a home-bred option under the oil-palm expansion programme; elsewhere, most plantings still use tenera seed from ICAR-IIOPR's broader hybrid pool or imported sources.
