About this variety
Univanich is a major Thai oil-palm breeder whose imported tenera (Dura ├Ч Pisifera) seed is another of the principal sources for Indian plantations. Its crosses are bred for South and South-East Asian humid-tropic conditions that are close to much of India's southern and eastern oil-palm belt, which is part of their appeal here. As with other imported material, the farmer plants a nursery-raised seedling supplied through the official channel; management is the same as for any tenera, turning on water, nutrition (especially potassium) and mill linkage rather than the seed source.
