About this variety
Queen is the oldest pineapple cultivar and one of the most widely grown, especially in Kerala, Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh (the Simhachalam belt) and Goa. It bears an early, small fruit of 0.9–1.3 kg with deep golden, crisp, very aromatic flesh, deep eyes and spiny leaves. It is prized as a premium fresh-eating (table) pineapple rather than a processing one. It is propagated from suckers and slips and flowers earlier than Kew.
