Why not just plant RRII 105 or RRII 414 in the north-east?

The traditional-belt clones were bred for Kerala's warm, frost-free, high-rainfall conditions. In the cooler winters and drier spells of Tripura and the wider north-east they establish poorly and grow slowly. RRII 208 and other clones identified for the non-traditional area (GT 1, RRIM 600) are hardier under those conditions, at some cost in peak yield.
