Salem Local is a farmer-conserved turmeric type, not an ICAR or university release, grown chiefly across Salem and the neighbouring districts of Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Villupuram, Perambalur and Kallakurichi in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Agricultural University's (TNAU) own spice-varieties reference page rates it at 4.75% curcumin with a fresh-rhizome yield comparable to the other well-known Tamil Nadu local type, Erode Local, at roughly 30–32 t/ha (about 300–320 q/ha) — a figure that sits right at, and slightly above, this page's existing "250–300 q/ha" band, so no real conflict.
