Suguna is a turmeric release from ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Calicut, notified in 1991 as a selection from germplasm accession PCT-13 collected in Andhra Pradesh. IISR’s own variety profile gives it a 190-day duration, a research-station yield of 29.3 t/ha (with a reported potential up to 60.3 t/ha), 4.9% curcumin, 13.5% oleoresin and 6.0% essential oil — the highest curcumin rating among the IISR turmeric releases checked in this research pass. It is moderately tolerant of rhizome rot (Pythium graminicolum) and leaf blotch (Taphrina maculans), has a reddish-yellow rhizome, and IISR’s own page recommends it for Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
