Parbat, formally identified as JWSP-06, is a walnut variety released by SKUAST-Jammu from breeding and selection work in the Jammu region's hill districts, and was documented in a 2022–2023 comparative morpho-molecular characterisation study alongside local seedling selections from the north-western Himalayan region of Jammu and Kashmir. What sets Parbat apart from the SKUAST-Kashmir releases (Hamdan and Sulaiman) is that it was specifically bred and evaluated for anthracnose resistance — walnut leaf blotch, a fungal disease distinct from bacterial walnut blight — alongside high yield. Parbat is also documented as late-maturing, a trait that carries a genuine secondary benefit at altitude: later leafing and flowering lets young growth partly dodge the spring frost damage that can hit earlier-flushing varieties at higher, colder sites. As a grafted release, Parbat bears in the same 4–5 year window as other named walnut cultivars, well ahead of a raw seedling tree.

Does Parbat's anthracnose resistance also protect it from walnut blight?

No — anthracnose (walnut leaf blotch) is a fungal disease, while walnut blight is a bacterial disease caused by a completely different organism. Resistance bred for one does not carry over to the other, so a Parbat planting still needs the same protective copper-spray programme against walnut blight as any other variety.
