Overview

Goa runs an interest-subsidy scheme on crop loans rather than a cheap-loan product: the state pays a 4% interest subsidy on top of the 3% the central government already gives, which brings a short-term crop loan of up to ₹3 lakh — and a long-term loan of up to ₹5 lakh — to effectively zero interest. The catch is that the subsidy is only released on prompt repayment to the bank, so a late instalment turns a free loan into a normal one.

It is deliberately not a land-title document — it confers no ownership claim, only access to agriculture subsidy — and it can be linked to Aadhaar. Behind it sits a generous state subsidy regime for those who hold the card: up to 90% on solar/battery fencing, polyhouses and greenhouses, drip irrigation and biogas plants. The card is the entry point to all of that.

What you get

The benefit as the state notifies it — nothing here is an estimate.

  • A 4% state interest subsidy on top of the central 3%, bringing crop credit to effectively zero interest.
  • Short-term crop loans up to ₹3 lakh and long-term up to ₹5 lakh covered by the subsidy.
  • Acts as proof of genuine cultivation, which is what unlocks the state’s other subsidies.
  • Opens access to up to 90% subsidy on fencing, polyhouses, drip irrigation and biogas plants.

Who is eligible

State schemes usually state their criteria as prose rather than a checklist. This is that prose, unpacked — the department’s verification is what decides.

You qualify if

  • Resident farmer of Goa cultivating agricultural land
  • Land holding recorded — a minimum of about one hectare for the full credit line
  • Registered with the Directorate of Agriculture for the card
  • Aadhaar available for linking

Not covered

  • Use of the card as a claim of land ownership — it is a subsidy-access card only
  • Non-agricultural use of the credit

Documents you need

Have these ready before you start — most rejections are a missing paper, not a missing right.

  • Aadhaar card
  • Land record establishing cultivation
  • Bank passbook
  • Passport-size photograph

How to apply

Fewer steps than a central scheme, and usually one office rather than a portal.

  1. 1

Register at the Directorate of Agriculture

Apply for the Krishi Card through the Directorate / your Zonal Agriculture Office with your land record.

  2. 2

    Link Aadhaar and activate credit

Link the card to Aadhaar. The subsidised crop-loan line runs through banks, with the interest subsidy credited on prompt repayment.

  3. 3

Use it to claim other subsidies

Present the card as proof of cultivation when applying for the state’s fencing, polyhouse, drip and biogas subsidies.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Krishi Card give me ownership of the land?

No. It is explicitly not a land-title document. It only establishes you as a cultivator for the purpose of agriculture credit and subsidy.

What interest do I pay on the credit?

Effectively nothing, if you repay on time — the state’s 4% subsidy plus the centre’s 3% cancels the interest on a crop loan up to ₹3 lakh. Miss the repayment window and you lose the subsidy and pay the bank’s normal rate.

Why do I need it if I already have land?

The card is the identity Goa’s subsidy schemes check — up to 90% on fencing, polyhouses, drip and biogas plants is claimed against it, on top of the cheap credit.
