Overview
A variety only helps a farmer once it is actually being sown, and seed replacement is usually the slowest step in getting a better variety into fields — home-saved seed is cheap, so few farmers pay full market price to switch on their own. Mukhyamantri Tivra Beej Vistar Yojana speeds that up for Rabi season crops by cutting the price of certified seed sharply: the state pays most of the cost, and the farmer pays only a small fraction per kilogram.
The subsidy is fixed per crop, not a flat percentage: wheat, gram (chana), lentil (masoor) and mustard (rai/sarson) each carry their own rate, and the scheme caps the area a single farmer can claim for — a smaller cap for wheat and one acre for gram, lentil and mustard. It runs alongside Bihar's other seed programmes (the general Beej Anudan seed-subsidy scheme and the Sub-Mission on Seed and Planting Material), so the exact rate a farmer sees at application depends on which scheme window is open for that crop that season.
