About this variety

Ooty 1 is a beetroot selection from the Horticultural Research Station, Ooty (Tamil Nadu Agricultural University), bred specifically for the Nilgiris and similar hill conditions. It gives round roots with a uniform, deep blood-red flesh that holds its colour and sweetness well, and yields strongly under the cool hill climate it was developed for. It is the standard recommendation for hill-station beetroot growers in Tamil Nadu.
