About this variety

CRIDA-18R is a horse gram variety from ICAR's Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA), Hyderabad, notified for cultivation in South India in 2009 and derived from the "K-42" parent line through mutation breeding — the same parent line later used again for CRHG-19 (2014). It carries a brown seed coat and non-shattering pods, and multi-location trials recorded a seed yield of roughly 750-1,150 kg/ha, about 21% above the best local check it was compared against, alongside documented tolerance to yellow mosaic virus, powdery mildew and mites. Together with CRHG-4, it represents ICAR-CRIDA's first generation of disease-tolerant horse gram releases for the South Indian rainfed belt.
