About this variety

RMt-1 was developed at SKN College of Agriculture (Rajasthan Agricultural University), Jobner, through pure-line selection from a local collection, and is described as semi-erect, tall and moderately branched with bold, typically yellow grain. It matures in 140 to 150 days with a reported average yield of 14.7 q/ha, and — most importantly given fenugreek's defining disease risk — it carries moderate resistance to root rot along with tolerance to powdery mildew. Since root rot (Rhizoctonia solani) is the single biggest disease threat in fenugreek and has been documented causing losses near 50% in badly affected Rajasthan fields, RMt-1 is a natural default on any field where the disease has shown up before.

Pest & disease considerations

Advantages & considerations

Why farmers may choose it

  • The clearest root-rot-tolerant option among commonly named fenugreek varieties, directly addressing the crop's defining disease risk.
  • Also tolerant of powdery mildew, covering two of the crop's main fungal threats at once.

Things to consider

  • Resistance is moderate, not complete — the standard prevention steps (recommended seed rate, light irrigation, good drainage) still matter even with this variety.

Suitable regions
