About this variety
Edward Rose (Rosa indica var. odorata), known in the south as the panneer rose or Rose Edouard, is the classic scented loose-flower rose of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. It is grown commercially for garlands, worship and rose water, and is also the most widely used rootstock for budding other roses in India. Its one weakness as a cut product is that the petals shed quickly, which makes handling and marketing the open flowers a challenge тАФ so it is valued above all as a fragrant loose flower and as a hardy budding rootstock.
