Palur-1 (PLR-1) was released by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in 1992 from a selection made at Panikkankuppam, Panruti Taluk, South Arcot district of Tamil Nadu. It is a large-fruited type — a mature grafted tree can bear around 80 fruit a season, averaging about 12 kg each — with firm, bright yellow, low-latex bulbs that are well suited to the fresh-market and export trade, where clean handling and low gum are genuinely valued. It remains the standard recommended jackfruit variety for Tamil Nadu.
