About this variety

French marigold (Tagetes patula) covers the dwarf, compact, very free-flowering types sold widely by Indian seed companies in red, yellow, orange and bicolour. The plants are small and early тАФ first flowers about 50тАУ60 days after transplanting тАФ and carry many small flowers rather than a few large ones. They are the standard choice for borders, pots, bedding, temple-garden planting and short-stem loose flowers, and are also widely used as a border/trap crop against root-knot nematodes in vegetable fields. For a large commercial loose-flower crop the tall African types are usually preferred; French types suit smaller plots, ornamental use and nematode management.
