About this variety
W-109 is a later Populus deltoides clone in the WIMCO "W" series, planted on farm land across Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and, increasingly, Bihar. It is valued for strong early vigour after ETP planting, which shortens the initial establishment period, and for a clean, straight stem form suited to peeler-grade grading. Supplied by WIMCO-linked and reputed private nurseries as bare-root ETPs on a 5–7 year rotation.

Yield & maturity
Maturity period
5–7 year rotation
Expected yield

Pest & disease considerations
Major diseases
- Moderate
Advantages & considerations
Why farmers may choose it
- Strong early vigour — shortens the establishment window and gets the block into productive girth-building sooner
- Clean, straight stems suited to peeler-grade grading
- Widely stocked by WIMCO-linked nurseries across the Indo-Gangetic plain
Things to consider
- Assured irrigation is essential; performs poorly on rainfed land
- Regular defoliator monitoring in the first three years
