Overview
This is Maharashtra’s personal-accident cover for the farm household, paid as a sanugrah (grievance) grant rather than an insurance policy the farmer buys. If a farmer dies or is permanently disabled in an accident while doing agricultural work, the state pays the family directly.
The amount is graded: ₹2 lakh for accidental death, ₹2 lakh for the loss of two limbs or two eyes (or one of each), and ₹1 lakh for the loss of a single eye or limb. There is no premium. Two things are worth knowing — the scheme was recently extended to include farm labourers, not only landholding farmers, and the whole process was moved onto the MahaDBT portal, so claims are filed online with documents uploaded.
