Overview
This is accident relief, not crop insurance. If a farmer dies or is permanently disabled in an accident, the state pays the family up to ₹5 lakh; for disability of 60 per cent or more the amount is ₹2 lakh. Nobody pays a premium — the state carries the cost.
Two details decide most claims. The cover extends to family members and to people farming someone else’s land on a share basis, not only the recorded landowner. And the application has to reach the tehsil within 45 days of the incident — the single most common reason a genuine claim fails.
What you get
The benefit as the state notifies it — nothing here is an estimate.
- Up to ₹5 lakh to the family on death or permanent total disability from a farm-related accident.
- ₹2 lakh where the disability assessed is 60 per cent or more.
- No premium and no enrolment — cover applies by virtue of being a farmer in the state.
- Sharecroppers and family members working the land are covered, not only the landowner.
Who is eligible
State schemes usually state their criteria as prose rather than a checklist. This is that prose, unpacked — the department’s verification is what decides.
You qualify if
- Farmer or family member aged between 18 and 70 years
- Resident of Uttar Pradesh
- The accident occurred in the course of farming work
- Application filed at the tehsil within 45 days of the incident
Not covered
- Claims filed after the 45-day window without a condonation order
- Incidents unrelated to farming work
Documents you need
Have these ready before you start — most rejections are a missing paper, not a missing right.
- Death certificate, or the disability certificate from a competent medical board
- FIR or panchnama for the accident
- Post-mortem report where applicable
- Aadhaar and identity proof of the claimant
- Land record or evidence of cultivation
- Bank passbook of the claimant
How to apply
Fewer steps than a central scheme, and usually one office rather than a portal.
- 1
Report the accident and get the paperwork
FIR or panchnama first, then the death or disability certificate. The claim is built on these two documents.
- 2
File at the tehsil within 45 days
The application goes to the tehsil office. Missing the 45-day window is what sinks most otherwise-valid claims.
- 3
Track the application
The Board of Revenue portal shows the status of a filed application through the tehsil and district stages.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to buy a policy or pay a premium?
No. There is no enrolment and no premium. The state funds the relief; the cover applies to farmers in Uttar Pradesh as a class.
The land is not in my name. Is my family covered?
Yes. The scheme covers family members and those farming another person’s land on a share basis, not only the recorded owner.
We missed the 45 days. Is the claim dead?
It is at serious risk. Late applications need a condonation from the competent authority and are frequently rejected — file at the tehsil as early as you can.
