Overview
Jharkhand launched the Mukhyamantri Krishi Ashirwad Yojana (MMKAY) in 2019 to give small and marginal farmers a reliable cash support before the Kharif sowing season. The logic is straightforward: a farmer who owns up to 5 acres gets ₹5,000 per acre, credited directly to the bank account. A 3-acre holder gets ₹15,000; a 5-acre holder gets the maximum ₹25,000. There is no premium, no repayment, and no middleman — the money moves through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) pipeline against the land record.
The scheme supplements PM-KISAN, which provides ₹6,000 per year from the Centre regardless of acreage. A Jharkhand farmer with 4 acres, for instance, receives ₹20,000 from MMKAY plus ₹6,000 from PM-KISAN — ₹26,000 per year before the first seed goes in. MMKAY is funded entirely by the state budget. The beneficiary list is published on the official portal (mmkay.jharkhand.gov.in), where a farmer can check status by Aadhaar or district.
The scheme was initially announced with the 2019–20 state budget and has been continued by successive governments. The 2025 beneficiary list has been released, confirming its active status. Eligibility is verified against the Jharkhand land-records database — the Aadhaar-seeded khatian (record of rights) is the primary document, which also means the scheme automatically excludes absentee landowners whose records are not updated.
What you get
The benefit as the state notifies it — nothing here is an estimate.
- ₹5,000 per acre per year, directly transferred to the farmer's bank account before Kharif sowing.
- Maximum benefit of ₹25,000 per year for a farmer cultivating up to 5 acres.
- Supplements PM-KISAN — a 3-acre Jharkhand farmer can receive ₹15,000 (MMKAY) + ₹6,000 (PM-KISAN) = ₹21,000 annually.
- No premium, no repayment — a straight income-support grant from the state budget.
Who is eligible
State schemes usually state their criteria as prose rather than a checklist. This is that prose, unpacked — the department’s verification is what decides.
You qualify if
- Permanent resident of Jharkhand
- Small or marginal farmer — owns cultivable land up to 5 acres
- Land must be registered in the farmer's name in the Jharkhand land-records system
- Aadhaar-linked bank account required for DBT
Not covered
- Farmers owning more than 5 acres of agricultural land
- Government employees, income-tax payers, and institutional landholders
- Land not recorded in the applicant's own name (e.g. undivided family land without mutation)
Documents you need
Have these ready before you start — most rejections are a missing paper, not a missing right.
- Aadhaar card (linked to bank account)
- Bank passbook or cancelled cheque
- Land records — khatian (record of rights) with khata number
- Domicile / residence proof of Jharkhand
How to apply
Fewer steps than a central scheme, and usually one office rather than a portal.
- 1
Verify your land record
Ensure your khatian (record of rights) is updated with your name and Aadhaar-seeded at the local land-revenue office. The scheme pulls eligibility from this database.
- 2
Check registration on the MMKAY portal
Visit mmkay.jharkhand.gov.in and search by Aadhaar or district to confirm your name appears in the beneficiary list. If it does not, contact your Block Agriculture Officer.
- 3
Receive the transfer
Once verified, the amount is credited directly to your Aadhaar-linked bank account via DBT. Check your passbook or bank statement for the credit.
If something goes wrong
Missing from the list, or payment stuck — here is the channel the department itself publishes for it.
- If your name is missing from the beneficiary list despite eligible land records, or if a sanctioned amount has not reached your bank account, approach the Block Agriculture Officer first, then the District Agriculture Officer. Carry your Aadhaar, khatian copy, and bank passbook.
- Beyond the department, use the Jharkhand CM Helpline — dial 181 (toll-free) or file online at cmhelpline.jharkhand.gov.in. Keep the grievance reference number to track resolution.
Frequently asked questions
How is MMKAY different from PM-KISAN?
PM-KISAN is a central scheme giving ₹6,000 per year to every landholding farmer regardless of acreage. MMKAY is a Jharkhand state scheme giving ₹5,000 per acre, capped at 5 acres. They are separate — an eligible farmer receives both.
Are sharecroppers or tenant farmers eligible?
No. MMKAY requires the land to be recorded in the farmer's own name in the Jharkhand land-records system. Sharecroppers and tenants without a recorded title are not covered.
How does DBT work for this scheme?
The state government transfers the amount directly to the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked bank account. There is no cheque or cash disbursal — the credit appears in the bank passbook.
How is the benefit calculated for a 3.5-acre holding?
The benefit is ₹5,000 per acre. For 3.5 acres, the transfer would be ₹17,500 per year. Fractions of an acre are counted as per the land record.
How do I check if my name is in the beneficiary list?
Visit mmkay.jharkhand.gov.in and use the search option — you can look up by Aadhaar number or by selecting your district, block, and village.
What if the land is in a joint name?
Each name on the joint khatian can be treated as a separate beneficiary, provided each person individually holds no more than 5 acres. The benefit is calculated on the share recorded against each name.
