About this variety

H-226 is a hybrid between a local cassava cultivar and the Malayan introduction M4, and stands alongside H-165 as one of the two dominant industrial varieties of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh's cassava belt. It is bred for the same purpose — high yield and starch content for factory processing — and is chosen by growers who supply starch and sago mills directly, where the long ten-to-eleven-month duration is accepted in exchange for the industrial value of the crop.
