Overview

Gujarat’s answer to crop insurance for farmers who never signed up to pay a premium: the state carries the whole cost and pays relief directly when a notified natural calamity — drought, heavy or unseasonal rain, cyclone — damages the crop. There is nothing for the farmer to pay in, which is the point of difference from a premium-based scheme.

The relief is slabbed by the extent of loss: ₹20,000 per hectare when the loss is between 33% and 60%, and ₹25,000 per hectare when it is above 60%. It is paid for up to 4 hectares per farmer. Assessment follows a notified calamity, so the scheme opens district by district rather than being claimable at any time.

What you get

The benefit as the state notifies it — nothing here is an estimate.

  • ₹20,000 per hectare for crop loss between 33% and 60%.
  • ₹25,000 per hectare when the loss exceeds 60%.
  • No premium — the state funds the whole scheme, so there is nothing to pay in advance.
  • Covers drought, heavy and unseasonal rain and cyclone, for up to 4 hectares per farmer.

Who is eligible

State schemes usually state their criteria as prose rather than a checklist. This is that prose, unpacked — the department’s verification is what decides.

You qualify if

  • Farmer cultivating in Gujarat
  • Crop loss of 33% or more from a notified natural calamity
  • Land falls in an area notified as affected for that event
  • Land record and bank account for the transfer

Not covered

  • Areas not notified as affected for that particular calamity
  • Loss below the 33% threshold
  • Area beyond the 4-hectare ceiling

Documents you need

Have these ready before you start — most rejections are a missing paper, not a missing right.

  • Aadhaar card
  • Copy of the land record (7/12)
  • Bank account details

How to apply

Fewer steps than a central scheme, and usually one office rather than a portal.

  1. 1

Apply at the nearest E-Gram centre

After a notified calamity, apply at your E-Gram centre — the operator fills the form free of cost. It also runs on i-Khedut.

  2. 2

    Damage assessment

The extent of loss is assessed on the ground to place your claim in the 33–60% or above-60% slab.

  3. 3

    Relief transferred

On verification, the per-hectare relief for your slab is transferred to your bank account, up to 4 hectares.

Frequently asked questions

Do I pay a premium like in crop insurance?

No. The scheme is fully funded by the state. You pay nothing in — relief is paid out when a notified calamity damages your crop.

How is the amount decided?

By the extent of loss: ₹20,000 per hectare for 33–60% loss, ₹25,000 per hectare above 60%, for up to 4 hectares.

Can I claim any time my crop fails?

No. It opens after a notified natural calamity, district by district. A loss from ordinary causes outside a notified event is not covered.
