Overview
Before Kisan Suryoday Yojana, most of Gujarat's agricultural feeders carried power only at night, so farmers irrigated in the dark for lack of any other option. Launched by the state's Energy & Petrochemicals Department in 2020-21 and inaugurated alongside the Prime Minister in October 2020, the scheme rewires agricultural feeders so farmers get three-phase power during the day instead, ending night-time irrigation.
The work runs off a dedicated ₹3,500-crore, three-year programme to separate agriculture feeders from the domestic/general supply and lay around 3,500 circuit-km of new lines, rolled out district by district — 10 districts, including Dahod, Gir-Somnath and Tapi, in the first year (2020-21), with the rest phased in through 2022-23 and beyond. By the state's most recent figures (December 2024), about 96% of Gujarat's roughly 18,225 villages — some 20.5 lakh agricultural connections — had daytime supply, either in a single window (commonly 8 AM-4 PM or 9 AM-5 PM) or two windows (5 AM-1 PM and 1 PM-9 PM); the remaining pockets were concentrated in Devbhoomi Dwarka, Kutch and Banaskantha.
There is no separate farmer application for the daytime supply itself — it switches on automatically once your feeder's rewiring is complete. A farmer applying for a fresh agricultural connection, or wanting to know whether their feeder is already on the daytime schedule, goes through the same discom — DGVCL, MGVCL, PGVCL or UGVCL — as for any other connection.

- Villages/feeders not yet reached by the phase-wise rollout — a small remaining share as of the latest figures, concentrated in a few districts
- Domestic and commercial connections, which fall outside this agricultural-feeder scheme

Call your discom's helpline (DGVCL, MGVCL, PGVCL or UGVCL, printed on your power bill) to confirm whether your agricultural feeder is already on the daytime schedule.

Apply for a new connection, if needed
A farmer without an existing agricultural connection applies through the discom's standard process; new connections in covered areas are wired for daytime supply from the start.

Supply switches to daytime automatically
Once your feeder's rewiring and separation work is complete, power for irrigation shifts to the notified daytime window — no separate consent form is needed.

- For a feeder-separation delay, a voltage or supply-schedule complaint, or a new-connection issue, first call your discom's own helpline — DGVCL, MGVCL, PGVCL or UGVCL, printed on your power bill.
- If unresolved, escalate through SWAGAT (State-Wide Attention on Grievances by Application of Technology), Gujarat's public grievance redressal system — file online at swagat.gujarat.gov.in or through your district collector's office. SWAGAT includes monthly hearings where unresolved cases are reviewed directly, and the system has resolved over 95% of the grievances filed with it since 2003.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to apply separately to get daytime power?
No — if you already have an agricultural connection, the switch happens automatically once your feeder is separated under the scheme; there is no individual application for existing connections.
What if my village still gets power only at night?
The rollout is phased by feeder and district; check with your discom's helpline for your area's timeline. As of the latest figures, a small share of villages — mostly in Devbhoomi Dwarka, Kutch and Banaskantha — were still awaiting coverage.
Does this scheme also install solar panels on my farm?
Not directly — Kisan Suryoday is about rewiring the grid for daytime supply; solar pumps and rooftop panels are covered under separate schemes like PM-KUSUM.
