Overview
In the canal belts of Rajasthan water arrives on a roster, not when the crop needs it — a farmer might get a few hours once a fortnight. A diggi is the answer: a lined tank that captures that allotted water and holds it, so a drip or sprinkler system can draw on it steadily instead of the field going thirsty between turns.
The Department of Agriculture pays 75% of the unit cost, up to ₹3 lakh, for a plastic-lined or pucca (masonry) diggi of at least 4 lakh litre capacity, on the Raj Kisan portal. Small and marginal farmers have been offered a higher rate in recent scheme notifications — reported at around 85%, up to roughly ₹3.40 lakh — so check the rate listed for your category on Raj Kisan before you apply, as it has changed between years.
The scheme is only for canal command areas, and it comes with conditions: you need at least 0.5 hectare of irrigated agricultural land, a jamabandi not older than six months, and you must install a drip or sprinkler set on the diggi — that pairing is compulsory, not optional. Because micro-irrigation carries its own subsidy, many farmers apply for the diggi and the drip set together.

Apply on Raj Kisan before building
Register and apply at rajkisan.rajasthan.gov.in or through an e-Mitra centre. Applying before construction is what makes the diggi eligible.

Build to the lined specification
After sanction, construct the diggi — plastic-lined or pucca — to at least 4 lakh litre capacity, and install the drip or sprinkler set.

Verification and subsidy
The department verifies the completed tank and the micro-irrigation set against the sanction, then transfers the subsidy to your bank account.
If something goes wrong
Missing from the list, or payment stuck — here is the channel the department itself publishes for it.
- For a subsidy not released after a verified diggi, or an application rejected without a clear reason, take it up with the Agriculture Supervisor and the Assistant Director of Agriculture for your area, then the Joint Director (Agriculture) at the district. Keep the Raj Kisan application number and the sanction letter.
